We'd been interested in checking out the wreck of the Hilda for a while and the conditions looked great. Bad start though, I'd left my BCD at home so had to go and hire one from my friends at Deep6 Clovelly. And the boat motor was playing up as well. We did see Michael McFadyen's boat going into the water. Heading south out of Botany Bay past Cape Solander we anchored easily at the site. We could see the anchor rope going down for quite some metres which led us to believe that the viz would be great. We had anchored 20m West of the GPS co-ordinates so thought we would have no trouble finding the wreckage. At the bottom the viz was 5m at best and there was a strong southerly current. We headed East, then south circled back. We did this twice but only found a bit of scattered wreckage. We did hit a maximum depth of 24m on 38% Nitrox, and a dive time of 48 mins. This was dive 206.
