The wreck(age) of the Malabar is a great shallow dive when the conditions are good. Seas must be fairly calm as the best part, the engine, is quite close to shore and subject to strong surge. With enough air left from our first dive (74 bar) we dropped anchor in crystal clear water and headed across the short distance. We passed over scattered wreckage and came to the flywheel, standing vertically up from the bottom. A short distance away closer to shore is the very large engine. The crankshaft, pistons and followers are easy to see as the engine lies on it's side with the crank facing upwards. We swam around the between the engine wreckage. close by amongst the kelp is a small propeller, clearly too small for the engine of the Malabar. Really pushing my air I ended the dive after 27 mins with 10 bar remaining. Sounds risky but I was only in 5m depth for the retuen trip to the boat and quite able to ascend safely if my air became tight. Good time to check buoyancy with an empty cylinder and 14 lb with my semi dry I was still slightly heavy.
