This is the shark feed dive on Osprey reef. The trip across was
very rough and Jen is sick all night. I'm also sick but only once.
Jen ends up sleeping most of the day away and misses the great dives
here.
The shark feed is amazing. It is done in a natural amphitheater.
In the middle of the amphitheatre is a bommie and this is where the bin
of tuna heads is roped down to. We sit on the dead coral and watch.
After teasing the sharks for a while the lid is released. In the
mix of creatures are white tip and grey sharks and a few larger silver
tip sharks. Not just sharks but also a potato cod and lots of
smaller fish looking for the morsels.
So the lid is released and the sharks go frantic. They swim around and
up and down madly trying to get the tuna. They come very close to
us - within a metre but they are really not interested in us. And the
action is about 10 metres away. The whole show from when we are seated
to when the frenzy is over goes for about 25 minutes. Some of the sharks
hang around and we head off to explore the rest of the area. We do 2
dives here and on the second dive check out the swim throughs and walls.
There are still sharks hanging around and the odd silver tip over 2m but
they take no interest at all in the divers.
