Between Horsburgh and Direction Islands is the channel that has been
used for hundreds of years by boats of all types. Boats from the
past often carried cannons and it would appear that in some cases the
cannons were nothing more than ballast. On the bottom here are a
number of cannons that have been dumped some time in the past.
Today the are home to a variety of fish life. Besides the cannons
there are wonderful bommies just brimming with life. We again
headed out over the edge into the blue to see what shark life we could
attract but unusually we got very little response. A 70 minute
dive with a maximum depth of 24m in water that appeared bottomless. |
