Our second dive for the day and my 300th. Minmi Trench
is an interesting dive site. We dropped the anchor 50m up current
and let the boat drift back until it was right over the trench.
The back anchor dropped neatly onto the sand at the edge of the trench.
We headed down the front anchor to make sure it was secure. Wayne
then headed North West (wrong way) before I pointed out to him that the
trench was the other way. Tracking back to the anchor and then SE
we hit the trench and dropped into it. The trench runs for some
distance. In about 30 mins in the trench we traversed it's length
to the NW and back SE to it's other end. It is close to the sand line
and 2+ metres deep. You can swim slowly within the trench with
walls on both sides covered in sea tulips, fans, soft corals and nudies.
It ends in a mass of boulders at one end where we turned and came back.
A Long Snouted Boar fish hid under rocks and eluded my camera.
Wayne did better. This was a wonderful dive despite the cold 14oC
water.
