At Steve's bommie we moor a bit off the bommie and follow a line to the top of the bomme. We are told you can get about 35m here and as it is the first dive for the day we can (within experience and training levels) go to 40m. We decide to go to the bottom and reach just over 32m. I wanted to give Jenny a bit more exposure to greater depth. At the bottom there is unusually some ruble - concrete blocks and what looks like a wheel rim. The bommie is named after Steve who spent many years working in this area. Sure is a great tribute. There is a plaque at the bommie (see pic). We see a number of white tip reef sharks, a couple of grey reef sharks and myriads of other fish. The area above 15m has many schooling fish as well as small sea cucumbers which hang on to the rocks. We do 2 dives here and it is well worth it. The bommie is just spectactular. |
