My first dives back in Sydney after being at Cocos (Keeling) and Christmas Islands and the seas are huge. We thought we could dive around anchor reef but the seas here were really sloppy. Waves across the Bare Island Bommie were huge - about 5m. We headed across and found that Kurnell around the steps was sheltered from both the wind and the seas. We dropped anchor a bit East of the steps and dropped over the side. Viz was poor, even by Sydney standards but Kurnell has some great sponges and other flora. Weedy sea dragons are guaranteed every time as are all the usual suspects. I did see a nudie that I had not seen before - a black-spot Jorunna. It looks like a lady beetle. We also saw 2 octopi wrapped up together. After a few minutes the separated and went their separate ways. We think that they were mating - they definately weren't fighting. We did 2 dives here, one to the West (max depth 15.2m and 79 mins) and one to the East (max depth19.8m and 49 mins). Viz on the second dive was so poor that we kept our torches on so we could see each other. There was a lot of surge and large amounts of organic matter in the water. This was Wayne's 200th dive and 227 and 228 for me.
