Having dived the Tuggerah already on December 23, 2006
we were looking for a second dive and Barrons was looking good. We
had noted diving the Tuggerah that the water down to about 36m was quite
dirty so we expected Barrons Hut to be poor viz. and it was. We
dived on 36% Nitrox. The temperature here was only 14 degrees, the
same as at the Tuggerah. We anchored close the start of The
Split but headed SE towards the chimney, exploring the swim throughs
as we went. We entered a cave than seemed much smaller than the
one leading to the chimney. This one also had a chimney but seemed
narrower than the one we are used to. It comes out quite a bit
shallower as well. It could be that with the poor viz, this could
be normal cave and chimney but we didn't think we had gone that far
along the wall. We headed back toward the anchors. Despite
poor viz, this has to be one of the best dive sites in Sydney.
After 40 minutes in poor viz and cold water we headed up, did our safety
stop and went home. |
