Our
second dive was planned for Barrens Hut. We dropped anchor in The
Split. We normally anchor at the Barrens Hut end of The Split.
However, as we geared up we noted that the boat was 40m from our mark.
We dropped over any way and found the anchor in a wide trench that was
quite unfamiliar. After securing the anchor we headed up the
trench. It was rocky, about 3-4m wide with walls around 2m high.
It extended each way as far as I could see. We followed the trench
which was a bit barren of fish life. After 20 mins or so we ended up at
a high spot where the trench seemed to end. I was at my turning
point on air at this stage so we headed back.
Along the way back we found a male weedie sea dragon with eggs on it's
tail. Very nice. Wayne saw an eagle ray which I missed.
We will need to explore this area a bit more.
