We had hoped to the Arch and Cave at Bass Point for my 50th dive but mother nature had other ideas and the seas were too sloppy to do it comfortably. And Jen was feeling really sick, not able to keep anything down so we looked for a calm place to anchor. We ended up out from The Gutter in 16m. There were quite a number of scuba divers entering. Leaving poor sick Jen on the boat we dropped over and started my 500th dive in just over 5 years. We headed east along the wall running into 6 divers as the wall turned further north. Following the wall north the depth increased as the wall ran out and we headed NW across kelp beds, then more south and low and behold there was the anchor. In this section we found some nudies, a friendly cuttle, heaps of bullseye and schools of stripeys and yellowtail to name a few. There was an abundance of fish life here. From the anchor we headed a bit west and explored a barren gutter. We went up it about 30m but it proved uninteresting so we headed back to the anchor, packed up and ascended. During our safety stop we were with large schools of stripie and yellowtail. By the time we exited the water was much calmer but our diving day was over. Back on shore Jen and I enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the local pub overlooking the water. |
