Shellharbour is a bit over an hour south of Sydney, between Port Kembla and Kiama. The diving is around Bass point and there are plenty of great dive sites there. and it's only 10 mins by boat from the ramp. The ramp is very sheltered but bass point is quite exposed. There are both shore and boat dives here. A number of the boat dives have very good permanent moorings which makes it very easy indeed. These include The Arch (and you can easily get to the cave from here) and both sides of Lous Rock. Leisure Coast Dive have some great information on Shellharbour diving including mud maps of some of the dive sites. And of course, Michael McFadyen has good information on Bass point. The water can be cooler than Sydney here but is also clearer a lot of the time. And the fish life is really prolific. Shore dives include The Gutter, Bushrangers Bay and the Gravel Loader. The Arch can be done from shore and maybe the cave but the conditions have to be very good as safe exists are not easily found. And it's a long surface swim back into Bushrangers Bay and the safe beach exit. .
