After a poor dive on the Bombo we were looking for a second dive - our first choice Toothbrush Island was too surgy, so was our second choice Pig Island Sth. So we headed over the Martins Islet expecting to dive the North side. However as we approached we saw a bunch of seals hanging in the water with one fin in the air. This was our signal. We anchored 50m from them and even before we could get the anchor down they had come over and were swimming around the boat and playing with the mermaid float. We couldn't get in the water quick enough. The viz was great, easily 15m and the water temp OK at 17C. But the best part was the seals, they swam around us, up, down ,sideways, swimming fast towards us and missing us by millimeters. They played together, putting on a great spectacle. A young one came up and rested on a rock 3m in front of me, then took a pose no more than 2m away. One came right up to my mask but I couldn't get a pic of that one. Got some great video as well as the pics. Then as quickly as they had come they left again. At just 10m and less than 15 mins from the boat ramp this must be most accessible seal colony around and wow are they good fun.
