July 3, 2010 and the conditions has been predicted as flat with
some wind. Turned out not to be flat and the wind was a real howler but it
did not stop us going to Magic Point to visit the Grey Nurse Sharks. Viz
was excellent - easily 20m. At the cave we quickly discovered 6 sharks.
5 were juvenile and one larger one. The large one had a hook and line
hanging out of it's mouth - proof once again that these wonderful animals fall
prey to fishers.
We love coming here as it is just the two of us - we get there
early, well ahead of the hords of divers that are known to descend on the site.
I take over 100 photos plus video as the sharks slow swim around the cave.
After 15-20 mins the sharks are comfortable with our presence and come quite
close to check us out. Creatures our size are not in their diet but it is
spooky to be checked out by a shark with such sharp teeth.
