Having dived the Annie M Miller we wanted to visit Magic
Point. We were quite disappointed when we arrived to find a large
boat full of divers exiting the water. For sure what GNS were
there had been scared away but this great mass of froth, bubble and
churn. At the cave there were no GNS but we did see the small devilfish
in the left corner, and on a ledge about 6m above that to the east the
lion fish that we had seen in the cave some time back. Wayne found
2 shells stuck together (see pics below). A bit further east a large
wobbie rested in a vey small gap. We headed east to the other
cave, coming across another juvenile wobbie. A moorish idol zipped
around but I could not it in my lens. At the second cave there a
cuttle and lots of bullesye. Continuing east along the rock edge
at around 15m we found large overhangs and crevices. We were fascinated
by a Weedy sea dragon which was feeding, sticking out it's long tongue
to snear small creatures. This is quite an interesting part of the point
and and an area that we had not visited. It is well worth
anchoring east of the magic point cave, and after visiting the sharks
head east past your anchor as far as you can. It is worth it and
at 15m or so you do get a long dive. |
