With Wayne in Qld and Jenny on day 2 of her OW I had booked on Scubaroo out of Chowder Bay to do a double dive. The boat was late and we got wet from the rain but it was going to be worth it. We had planned Midway but the seas were up and it would have been a very uncomfortable trip there and back. We elected to go to Colours reef off South Head as the skipper had divers there in the morning and they reported great viz. I buddied a young fellow, only 17 years old and already done his Advanced OW. I wish I had been able to dive at that age. We did a backward roll and down the anchor we went. The anchor was sitting on a flat part of the reef but we dropped off the rope and followed a wall to the East. At the end of the wall my buddie spied a lion fish and of course I took a few pics. The wall turned South and we followed it close to the bottom at around 25m. I elected to turn based on avail deco time and we followed the wall back, this time shallower. Lots of interesting critters on this dive and another look at the lion fish, a rock cod and some nudies. We ascended slowly and did an extra long safety stop - only cause it was so nice in the water. Once on the boat we saw several other pairs 50m south of the boat with safety sausages up. They had attempted to cut across the reef from the end of the wall and not been able to navigate back. This is a great dive site, best done on Nitrox to get maximum bottom time.
