Mid week summer and daylight savings is great for a mid
week twilight dive. We can meet about 5.30, be in the water by 6
and packed up and home by 8.30, making it a pleasant evening. I
met a couple, Brad and Chris. Brad had not dived for 6 months
after an industrial accident. He had been a DM for Frog dive in
the past.
The seas were flat and we walked out to the end of the
island on the west side and dropped in. Swimming out across the
kelp till we got to the drop off on the back of the island. We
headed right (west) along the wall. Along the way I collected
rubbish in my catch bag. I soon found that the drag from the bag
was making me work harder and when along the edge of the reef we
encountered a strong current I was really working hard and cramped.
I headed across the top of the reef, rather than going to the end as I
was a lot lower on air than I would have liked. We found 2 other
divers taking pics of a metal thing that has a face attached to it.
Then back along the reef, clutching my full catch bag to my chest to
minimize drag. Viz as variable, a bit cloudy at the back of the
island, but better closer to the reef.
