Bare Island is always interesting. After what
seems a long break for Jenny she is back in the water again. We
did not expect much give that over at Kurnell there was still a lot of
silt in the water. We got there just after high tide. A few
other divers about but the water started at a balmy 20 degrees in the
shallows. Out close the end of the reef we came across a young PJ.
This was Jenny's first PJ and she kept her distance. We also saw
stingarees, an eagle ray, a moray eel and the inevitable gropers.
Viz was OK, about 8m and still OK towards the cave. Water
temperature in the deeper water dropped to 17. A nice first dive
for Jenny to get back into. Jen did the navigating and did pretty
well only going wrong once up onto the top of the reef when our aim was
the cave at the end of the reef.
After an hour and a half we went again - same side
following the reef out. Viz was not as good and out at the cave it
was down to a couple of metres. We turned and coming back Jen
found 2 mourning cuttles. We're sure they are the same ones that
we have seen in this area previously. We spent a good 5 minutes
with them. They are the most interesting creatures. One of
them turned yellow and extended all it's tentacles, like a squid and a
got a photo of it too. A lovely second dive, followed by lunch at
Tony's before we headed home.
